How to Make Wudu

The Sunnah Sequence: How the Prophet ﷺ performed wudu, step by step.

Step 1

Begin with Bismillah

Say “Bismillah” before starting.

Wash the hands three times

Wash both hands up to the wrists, making sure water reaches between the fingers.

Rinse the mouth

Take water into the mouth, swirl it around, and spit it out. This is done three times.

Rinse the nose

Sniff a small amount of water into the nostrils and blow it out. This is also done three times.

Wash the face three times

The face includes from the top of the forehead to the chin and from one ear to the other. Make sure the entire area is reached.

Wash the arms three times

Wash the right arm beginning at the fingertips and going up to and including the elbow. Then wash the left arm the same way.

Step 7

Wipe the head once

Wet your hands, then wipe over the head from the front to the back and back to the front. This is done once.

Wipe the ears

With the same wet hands, wipe inside the ears with your index fingers and behind the ears with your thumbs. This is included in wiping the head.

Wash the feet three times

Wash the right foot up to and including the ankles. Make sure to wash between the toes. Do the same with the left foot.

When you finish the last step, your wudu is complete.
